Article: Why I Don’t Look for Perfect Pearls
Why I Don’t Look for Perfect Pearls
When people think of a “good pearl,” they usually imagine one that’s perfectly round.
Perfectly smooth. Perfectly white.
I used to think that too.
Until I started looking at thousands of pearls.
⸻
The longer I searched, the less interested I became in perfection.
The pearls I couldn’t stop looking at were almost never the most perfect ones.
Sometimes it was the glow. Sometimes it was the way the color changed when I turned it.
Sometimes it was just a feeling I couldn’t explain.
I would pick it up, put it down, then pick it up again.
Those are the ones that come home with me.
⸻
When I choose pearls for Aurora, I don’t start with a grading chart.
I start with a question.
Would I still be thinking about this pearl tomorrow?
If the answer is yes, it deserves another look.
⸻
That doesn’t mean I ignore quality.
I care deeply about quality.
Glow. Balance. The way a pearl feels in the light.
The way it works with the rest of the piece.
Those things matter far more to me than chasing perfection.
⸻
Some of my favorite pearls have tiny natural marks.
Some aren’t perfectly round.
Some would probably be passed over by someone looking only at a grading sheet.
I would choose them again every time.
Because they’re the ones that feel alive.
⸻
That’s also why Aurora isn’t built around mass production.
I don’t try to make every piece identical.
Nature doesn’t work that way. Neither do I.
⸻
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from Aurora, it’s this.
The best pearl isn’t always the most perfect one.
Sometimes it’s simply the one you can’t stop looking at.
